USES! and EXAMPLES!

There are many uses for fingerprinting. One is for a officer to identify a criminal, it is also used for maturity tests. They are used in maturity tests to find the father of a baby. Every person has a V.N.T.R. pattern (Variable Number Tandem Repeats, this is basically your finger print) but is similar to your parents. But the most common is still for forensic science.

Examples of Finger Prints

Everything you touch has a sample of your fingerprint, that can be lifeted and used but fingerprints are easy to check, if you want you can get your prints taken at certain places.

In this picture a man is getting his fingers scanned so he can see his prints on the special computer made specifically for fingerprints.

Fingerprints are very important for finding perpetrators and matching them with a crime.

In this picture this lady is matching fingerprints to someone in the world, once they find out whose it is, they will be asked for questioning or arrest.

Ethincal and Social Issues

Although finger printing does get the perpetrator, some of the time the evidence lead to a innocent person. the innocent person will occasionally get arrested. in most cases the police find there mistake and let the innocent free. but it goes against their rights and makes ethical issues. this also leads to people not trusting them, which makes a social issue.

Fingerprints: A History

Fingerprints help determine if someone is a repeat offender, however in the early days of the police force they did not use fingerprinting, therefore they could not know if someone was a repeat offender and should be charged more severely. Different countries took different paths on this issue, France actually branded their criminals with the symbol of the crown, the Fleur-De- Lis. Rome Tattooed their criminals to make sure they were not repeat offenders. but other countries cut off their thieves hands so they could not commit another crime.

Description

Fingerprints are what police use to identify criminals, also match criminals with evidence pulled from a crime scene. Fingerprints can also be of the victim or of other people that may have touched the surface. No two fingerprints are the same, just like no two snowflakes are the same. Fingerprints solve ten times more unknown suspects than DNA in most jurisdictions.
